Mariokart GPS

I bought a GPS device that supports custom vehicle icons, so naturally I made a custom icon out of Mariokart sprites.

Here is a tool that converts a PNG to the proprietary SRF format. For some reason PNGs created by photoshop don’t work right, you can do the work in photoshop but you have to open it in something else (I used Seashore) and re-save.

I found an image with all of the kart sprites here. The Garmin .srf format wants 36 angles from slightly above, and 36 angles top-down. There are only 6 angles in the Mariokart sprites, but with flipping and frame doubling it works.

Here’s the file, this should work on any Garmin GPS device. Drop it in the /vehicles/ folder on the device: mariokart.srf (1.3 mb)
